EVENTO DE CICLISMO "SI A LA SALUD NO A LOS VICIOS FUE TODO UN ÉXITO"

El día de ayer se llevó a cabo la última fecha del evento organizado por la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa denominado “Si a la salud, no a los vicios” el cual contó la participación de distintas personalidades del deporte arequipeño entre ellos el hombre de los records y miembro del Salón de la Fama de los Deportes Extremos 2013 Guillermo Rendón, la Reina de Arequipa Caroline Riabtshoun quien deleitó a los presentes con su belleza y encanto y el alcalde de Arequipa Dr Alfredo Zegarra Tejada quien se hizo presente en el evento a fin de dar su apoyo a los ciclistas y deportistas participantes de este actividad deportiva.

Los miembros del Team de ciclismo Inter fueron los invitados especiales de este evento de ciclovias, el cual dirigido por el conocido ciclomaster arequipeño Luis Delgado le dieron realce a esta actividad realizando un circuito de ciclismo urbano alrededor del centro histórico de Arequipa.

La nota alegre la pusieron un grupo de practicantes de capoeira quienes al compás de la Batucada demostraron sus habilidades en dicho arte de combate brasilero.

Además del ciclismo se realizaron otras actividades deportivas complementarias y el evento finalizó nada menos que con un tradicional bautizo de Wawa la cual fue preparada por alumnos de instituto de gastronomía Stendhal.

Los participantes recibieron distintos regalos de los auspiciadores y tuvieron la oportunidad de degustar de los platos típicos de la gastronomía arequipeña preparados por las hábiles manos de los chefs del instituto INTUR-PERU.

El evento contó con el auspicio de ONG Mandala, Focus Group, Arequipa Vegan, Bloqueadores Bahía, Agshelenferesh, Instituto Stendhal.

Felicitamos al Dr Alfredo Zegarra Tejada por la labor que viene realizando en pro del desarrollo del deporte y en especial del ciclismo en Arequipa.

The Municipality of Arequipa awarded the best adventure tourism tour operators of Arequipa.The awards ceremonial was part of the event called “AQP XTREME SPORTS HALL OF FAME 2013”, event that was considered by the specialists as the event of the year 2013.

Since there are hundreds of travel agencies in Arequipa and 90 percent are brokers and not real tour operators, the main goal of the ceremonial was to introduce the best adventure tourism tour operators to the entire world and to award those whose efforts in favor of the development of ecotourism, sustainable tourism, and adventure tourism are more than outstanding.

The ceremonial took place in the Municipality Palace of Arequipa and it gathered the crème of the crème of the arequipenian adventure tourism world: tour operators, promoters, authorities, among others.

At the end of the ceremonial the representatives of the tourism department of the Municipality of Arequipa presented the three inductees to the AQP XTREME SPORTS HALL OF FAME 2013, promoters of adventure tourism and sportsmen who are considered as icons of adventure sports and tourism  in Arequipa such as the mountainbiking record killer Guillermo Carlos RendónCuadros .

During the ceremonial special awards were given to a rescue team unit of the national peruvian police and to the mountainclimbing guide of the year: Mr EloyCacya, a mountainclimbing guide from Colca Valley who was declared as mountainclimbing guide of the year thanks to his successful work done in the rescue of Ciro Castillo Rojo  , as student lost in the walls of Colca Canyon (found dead) and thanks to the rescue of the body of Oliver Toledo, a student who got lost in a religious pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Chapi.

Municipalidad de Arequipa y Embajador Cultural capacitan a estudiantes de turismo

La Municipalidad de Arequipa a través de la Gerencia de Cooperación Internacional y Turismo viene organizando en coordinación con la Asociación de Guías de Turismo y Orientadores Turísticos de la Provincia de Caylloma una serie de charlas de capacitación dirigidas a los estudiantes de turismo de las distintas casas de estudio de Arequipa, esto a pedido del Embajador Cultural de la Provincia de Caylloma Sr Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros  a fin de mejorar la calidad de los servicios turísticos a futuro.

La primera charla se dio el día 9 del presente mes en el cine auditorio de la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa y el tema central fue el Trekking en el Cañón del Colca.

En la primera parte de la charla Guillermo Rendón expuso de manera muy detallada y concisa toda la parte teórica así como los requerimientos para la práctica de esta disciplina, que en la actualidad se ha convertido en la más importante dentro del ecoturismo, siendo el circuito más importante a nivel nacional el denominado Inca Trail o Camino Inca localizado en la ciudad imperial del Cusco.

Cabe destacar que el número de turistas que vienen al Perú a practicar esta actividad es cada vez mayor, por lo que se hace necesario formular proyectos de desarrollo en base a las tendencias turísticas actuales, y no en base a caprichos de los políticos de turno cuyo desconocimiento sobre el turismo y su problemática es una muestra tangible de la terrible situación en la que se encuentra el sector turismo en Arequipa y que mejor que empezar capacitando a los estudiantes de turismo de Arequipa, quienes a futuro serán los llamados a hacer los cambios que este rubro tanto necesita.

En el caso de Arequipa, el Trekking en el Cañón del Colca es a la fecha el circuito favorito de los turistas extranjeros. Este circuito no ha sido creado por las autoridades sino más bien por los mismos turistas quienes se aventuraban a ir más allá de la Cruz del Cóndor.

A pesar de ser el más visitado en Arequipa, este viene siendo gestionado de la peor manera posible, lo que ha provocado que muchos turistas hayan sido víctimas de robos, violaciones y muertes, esto debido a la incapacidad de las autoridades representativas y en especial de AUTOCOLCA entidad que a la fecha hace agua por todos lados. Ni siquiera las portadas pagadas en los distintos diarios locales que constantemente anuncian falsos incrementos del número de visitantes al Cañón del Colca salvarán la imagen institucional ya dañada por ellos mismos de la manera más absurda posible. ¿Acaso no fueron los autodenominados “magisters” como el Sr Raul Gonzales Veliz,ex promotor turístico de AUTOCOLCA y autor de la campaña de promoción turística en base a la muerte del estudiante Ciro Castillo Rojo quien acabó convertido en escultura cerca a la plaza de Chivay?

Si esto hace un promotor turístico de AUTOCOLCA ya se imaginaran que es lo que vienen haciendo a la fecha los representantes de esta institución dirigida de forma chaplinesca por caricaturescos personajes convertidos en autoridades.

A pesar de haberse incrementado los costos del Boleto Turístico los circuitos de Trekking en el Cañón del Colca se encuentran en un estado deplorable sin señalización homologada internacional, llenos de basura y desperdicios plásticos lo que causa la indignación de los turistas quienes se sienten literalmente estafados al pagar un boleto turístico que en NADA CONTRIBUYE A LA MEJORA DE DICHOS CIRCUITOS. Ni que decir del rio Colca que se ha convertido en el vertedero de las aguas hervidas de los distintos poblados de la provincia de Caylloma. La pestilencia generada por el rio Colca en los meses de sequía en la zona de Sangalle es terrible, ocasionando la molestia de los turistas quienes se van decepcionados por la falta de conciencia ambiental tanto de los pobladores como de las autoridades representativas de la zona a quienes solo les interesa llenarse los bolsillos con el cuento del turismo.

Para colmo de males, los circuitos de Trekking en el Cañón del Colca cuentan con LOS PEORES GUIAS DE TURISMO ya que el 95% de los mismos son informales y no cuentan con identificación alguna, situación que atenta de forma directa en contra de la imagen del turismo en el Cañón del Colca y por ende de Arequipa. Y nosotros nos preguntamos: ¿Dónde están los presidentes acomodaticios de las Asociaciones de Guías de Turismo de Arequipa que no hacen nada al respecto? ¿Cuál es la contribución de estas asociaciones corruptas de guías de turismo de Arequipa al desarrollo del turismo en Arequipa? ¿Qué hace AUTOCOLCA con respecto a esta situación? Nada de nada. ¿Con que cara pretenden compara a Cusco con el Cañón del Colca cuando a la fecha ni siquiera pueden arreglar la carretera? ¿Cómo pretenden comparar a Cusco con el Cañón del Colca si ni siquiera pueden poner un alto a los guías informales?

Guillermo Rendón Cuadros a su vez descargó su artillería pesada no sólo en contra de las autoridades representativas del sector turismo, sino que el blanco de sus ataques fueron también los profesores de los distintos institutos de turismo, quienes en su mayoría no vienen dando una educación de calidad ni una preparación adecuada a los estudiantes de turismo.

Esta situación ha provocado que los pobladores del Valle y Cañón del Colca rechacen la presencia de los guías de turismo arequipeños debido a su desconocimiento de las culturas locales y por desinformar a los turistas con sus improvisadas y desactualizadas informaciones consideradas disparatadas, convirtiéndolos de esta manera en el hazmerreír de los pobladores de la zona.

Increíble pero cierto. Sólo aquí en Arequipa se dan situaciones como estas.

Felicitamos la decisión del Embajador Cultural de la Provincia de Caylloma Sr Guillermo Rendón Cuadros de organizar charlas de capacitación para los estudiantes de turismo de Arequipa quienes como mencionó él durante la charla son los llamados a cambiar la imagen apocalíptica que tiene el sector turismo a la fecha. Esperamos que asi sea por el bien de todos.

MPA ORGANIZA CHARLAS DE CAPACITACION SOBRE TREKKING EN EL CAÑÓN DEL COLCA

La Sub-gerencia de Turismo de la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa viene organizando  una serie de charlas de capacitación a fin de mejorar la calidad de los servicios turísticos en la Provincia de Caylloma y la Región Arequipa. Dichas charlas están dirigidas a todos los estudiantes de turismo de nuestra región y esta es la primera vez en la historia de Arequipa que se dan estas charlas de capacitación a estudiantes de turismo ya que hasta la fecha nuestras esclerosadas autoridades del sector turismo no hacen nada por mejorar la calidad de los servicios turísticos en Arequipa a pesar de la terrible problemática en la que la “industria sin chimeneas” arequipeña se encuentra.

La primera charla se llevará a cabo este 9 de Mayo a las 10:00 am en el Cine-Auditorio de la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa en donde el conferencista principal será el Embajador Cultural de la Provincia de Caylloma Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros quien dará una charla acerca del trekking o turismo de caminatas en el Cañón del Colca. Dicha charla altamente didáctica tiene como objetivo informar e instruir de manera veraz a los estudiantes de turismo acerca de esta actividad como es el trekking o turismo de caminatas en el Cañón del Colca, un tipo de turismo que va en aumento cada vez más a nivel nacional siendo el principal circuito de trekking el denominado “Camino Inca” en la ciudad imperial del Cusco.

Además de informar e instruir a los estudiantes de turismo estas charlas tienen como objetivo principal no sólo el de mejorar la calidad de los servicios turísticos en este rubro sino el de EVITAR Y REDUCIR LOS ACCIDENTES Y LAS TRAGICAS MUERTES OCURRIDAS EN EL CAÑÓN DEL COLCA EL AÑO PASADO siendo la muerte del estudiante CIRO CASTILLO ROJO el caso más controversial de todos los ocurridos hasta la fecha.

Menos Harlem Shake y más capacitación- pidieron al unísono los guías locales de Caylloma al alcalde Elmer Cáceres Llica quien a la fecha se viene comportando como una prima donna  sin que hasta la fecha de una solución a los problemas del sector turismo. La problemática del turismo en la provincia de Caylloma requiere de medidas urgentes y no payasadas mediáticas, ni titulares fraudulentos, ni tampoco desfiles de modelos veteranas como FASHION SHOW cuyo objetivo principal no es el de difundir ni el de incrementar las ventas de la artesanía cayllomina sino más bien satisfacer las bajas pasiones de un alcalde paparazzi de provincia y malversar los fondos de AUTOCOLCA de la manera más burda.

Son muchos los pobladores de la provincia de Caylloma que vienen mostrando su descontento ante la pésima gestión de Elmer Cáceres Llica. Con carreteras llenas de huecos, con poblados que se hunden no solo víctimas de las inclemencias de la naturaleza sino también de la economía actual es absurdo que AUTOCOLCA venga despilfarrando el dinero de los boletos turísticos en eventos que no tienen ningún impacto directo en la mejora de los servicios turísticos ofrecidos en la Provincia de Caylloma ni en la calidad de vida de sus pobladores. 

Gobierno Regional de Arequipa reconocen a evento ciclístico INKABIKE

Gracias a la solicitud hecha por la Asociación de Guías de Turismo de la Provincia de Caylloma ASGUIP TUCAY finalmente el Gobierno Regional de Arequipa mediante Resolución Gerencial Regional Nro 002-2013 GRA/PP emitida el 14 de Febrero del 2013 ha resuelto declarar al evento ciclístico INKABIKE de interés turístico regional el mismo que fuera considerado como la carrera de ciclismo de montaña más alta del mundo. En el segundo artículo de la misma resolución se ha resuelto encargar a la Autoridad Autónoma del Colca (AUTOCOLCA) la promoción y difusión de dicha declaratoria ante PROMPERU- IPD AREQUIPA, LIGA DE CICLISMO DE AREQUIPA entre otras entidades.

El Creador de dicho evento fue nada menos que GUILLERMO CARLOS RENDON CUADROS reconocido promotor turístico y afamado ciclista de descenso ampliamente conocido por sus eventos que le han dado fama mundial siendo el más importante de todos ellos el Raid ciclístico Mallku Jaqe u Hombre Kondor siendo la versión del 2005 las más publicitada de todas en la que Guillermo Rendón Cuadros (downhill) y Aldo Peña Altamirano (cross country) partieron de las cumbres del volcán Waranqante ubicado en el Valle del Colca a 5,100 metros de altura para llegar después de tres días a las costas de Camaná (0 metros snm) .

Debido a su ardua labor como promotor turístico yv defensor de los derechos del pueblo cayllomino ha ganado una serie de condecoraciones siendo estas las más importantes:

1.-HIJO ADOPTIVO DE LA PROVINCIA DE CAYLLOMA  (alcalde Dr Jorge Cueva Tejada).

2.-MEDALLA DE ORO DE LA MUNICIPALIDAD PROVINCIAL DE AREQUIPA (Simón Balbuena Marroquin).

3.-EMBAJADOR CULTURAL DE LA PROVINCIA DE CAYLLOMA (Alcalde Elmer Caceres Llica).

4.-MEDALLA DE LA CULTURA DE LA MUNICIPALIDAD PROVINCIAL DE AREQUIPA (Alcalde Dr Alfredo Zegarra Tejada).

Guillermo Rendón Cuadros en los próximos días estará siendo reconocido en conferencia de prensa por la Liga de Ciclismo de Arequipa así como por el Club At Full de Arequipa por la creación del evento INKABIKE 2003 de acuerdo al informe presentado por el aquel entonces presidente de la Liga de Ciclismo de Arequipa Sr Guillermo León y el comisario de dicha prueba Sr Dante Paz Bustamante.

Los mejores promotores turísticos del 2013

En ceremonia especial llevada a cabo en el cine auditorio de la Municipalidad de Arequipa el día viernes 18 a las 07:00 pm y al compás de las notas de los profundos yaravíes arequipeños se llevó a cabo la ceremonia de distinción organizada por el departamento de cultura y el departamento de Relaciones Públicas de la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa.

En ella fue distinguido el Embajador Cultural de la Provincia de Caylloma Sr Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros quien recibió la Medalla de la Cultura de la Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa en mérito haber sido declarado Hijo Adoptivo de la Provincia de Caylloma siendo esta entregada por el Sr Walter Espinoza Gallegos Jefe del Departamento de Turismo y Cultura. 

Guillermo Rendón en un  mensaje breve y conciso a los medios de comunicación presentes dió su respaldo a la gestión municipal del Dr Alfredo Zegarra Tejada y durante su mensaje descalificó la labor realizada por el INC entre otras entidades que a la fecha no hacen nada para la preservación de los complejos arqueológicos en la provincia de Caylloma los mismos que vienen siendo destruidos por empresas inescrupulosas quienes en nombre del turismo vienen destruyendo estos complejos arqueológicos  a fin de construir hoteles, restaurantes en estos lugares atentando contra el patrimonio arqueológico y la identidad cultural de la provincia de Caylloma. 

A su vez respaldó la petición de devolución de la Princesa del Ampato hecha por el alcalde de Caylloma Arq. Elmer Cáceres Llica a las autoridades y negó rotundamente que este sea tan sólo un capricho del alcalde sino el firme deseo de todos los pobladores de la provincia cayllomina quienes en breve presentarán un memorial firmado al Pdte de la República Ollanta Humala Tasso respaldando la petición hecha por el alcalde cayllomino.

Asimismo fueron distinguidos en dicha ceremonia los promotores turísticos del año 2013 Sres Gonzalo Ruy Zevallos Portilla y Bruno Doménico Zevallos Ballón en mérito a la creación del circuito de integración del sur el mismo que viene integrando a los países de Perú y Chile. Este circuito basado en la realidad nacional de ambos países fue creado en 1980 y ha recibido la felicitación de las distintas universidades a nivel nacional e internacional entre otras entidades no sólo debido su aporte cultural a la juventud peruana sino también por fomentar la integración entre ambos países a través del turismo sostenible.

La ceremonia contó con la presencia de distintas autoridades y celebridades siendo la más importante entre ellas la presencia del ex-vicepresidente de la Junta Nacional de Rectores del Perú Dr Manuel Zevallos Vera quien dio realce a dicha ceremonia. Además en dicha ceremonia se contó con la presencia de nada menos que la Reina de Turismo de Aventura 2013 Srta Stefanie Melendres Durand quien con su belleza dejó encantados a los presentes.

La ceremonia cerró con broche de oro con la distinción hecha al Alcalde de la Municipalidad de Arequipa Dr Alfredo Zegarra Tejada el mismo que fuera distinguido por Autocolca en mérito al apoyo que viene brindando dicha institución en la difusión de los atractivos turísticos de la Provincia de Caylloma.

Tour guides association from Colca Canyon protest in Arequipa

The local tour guides association from Colca Valley and Colca Canyon ASGUIP TUCAY sent a letter to the manager of AUTOCOLCA Freddy Jimenez Palacios protesting for the death of the brazilian tourist Paula Sibov.

The secretary of ASGUIP TUCAY Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros considers that the authorities in charge of the administration of this touristic circuit are also responsible for the death of Paula Sibov.

The authorities are responsible for the chaotic situation we have in Arequipa right now city which is being affected by the presence of illegal travel agencies, illegal tour guides,illegal mountainclimbing guides and other problems.The travel agency Southamerican Explorer is responsible for the death of the tourist. Eventhough it is a legal travel agency they hired an illegal tour guide for taking Paula Sibov to the Colca Canyon.

Guillermo Rendón reccommends the visitors to be more cautious when buying tours in Arequipa. It is important to check your guidebooks and also some references from other sources too.

The secretary of ASGUIP TUCAY Guillermo Rendón Cuadros has declared a war to the illegal tour operators and corrupted authorities from Arequipa.

It is not possible that authorities of Arequipa such as the Regional Goverment of Arequipa and others are doing NOTHING to solve the problem.

Freddy Jimenez, manager of AUTOCOLCA announced in these day through the institutional facebook account that informal guides are not going to be allowed in Colca Canyon.

"The death of Paula Sibov should not be in vain! Tourists are friends that sometimes come from so far away just to visit our homeland. We don´t want more dead tourists in Colca Canyon"- said Guillermo Rendón Cuadros,the secretary of ASGUIP TUCAY.

Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros is his full name and he is the most successful and recognized tour guide from Arequipa. His fame comes not from his sports career as a downhill mountainbiker and martial artist but as a tour guide involved in the promotion of Colca Canyon as one of the natural marvels of the world.

Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros is the actual secretary of the local tour guides association from Colca Canyon ASGUIP TUCAY and named spokesperson of the native people from Caylloma province where one of the deepest canyons in the world is located.

Guillermo Rendón has declared a frontal war against ABUSIVE TOUR GUIDES COMMISSIONS and against AUTHORITIES CORRUPTION which is a cancer that is affecting tourism in Colca Canyon. Tourism doesn´t benefit all the people in Colca Canyon just a group of businessmen who manipulate authorities.

The fight started when a corrupted director of tourism of Arequipa wanted to cancel local tour guides from Colca Canyon. Tour guides association from Arequipa backed up the idea. The voice of the leader was heard and a revolt started.

Sustainable Tourism is an unknown word in the lexicon of the travel agencies from Arequipa.
For the locals Guillermo Rendón Cuadros is the Mallku Jaqe or the Kondor Man, which is the name of a mountainbiking raid that took place in Colca Canyon area. In that time , Guillermo Rendón took part in this mountainbiking champions raid which started from the top of a mountain at 5;100 meters and after a three day adventure the cyclists arrived to the Pacific Ocean. The distance covered was more than 500 kilometers.

But at the same time Mallku Jaqe has other meaning. In the Inca religion, a Mallku or a Condor is a person who has inherited the inca ancient knowledge and traditions. Rendón is considered also as a Chaka Runa or Man Bridge a person who has the knowledge of the Mother Culture (Inca) and The Father Culture (Spanish).

Guillermo Rendón Cuadros is not only a tour guide or a well-known sportsman. He was a teacher and he taught Philosophy, History and his specialty :Comparative and Inca Religion. Others considered him as the Tupac Amaru or Shining Snake who fought against the abusive conquistadors. Guillermo Rendón doesn´t offer his clients just “empty explanations” but a real experience with the inca culture.

The reaction of the tour guides from Arequipa was expected. Slanderous blogs against his person were done with the purpose of taking away from tourism through attacking his good imagen.
Involved in the creation of this campaign against him are travel agencies from Arequipa whose interests in keeping this unbearable situation are notorious. A student from Chivay who defended the right of the natives through his web page was killed in Chivay. His body was thrown to Colca River.

Rendón is still there like a mountain. His power according to him comes from the Truth. The Truth for him is the evidence collected during more than 15 years that shows all the corruption of tourism in Arequipa. Most of the tour guides and travel agencies from Arequipa are considered by the locals as PARASITES who lived from commissions obtained from the locals and from the tourists.

Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros was declared by the major of Chivay as ADOPTIVE SON OF CAYLLOMA PROVINCE because of his labour in the DEFENSE OF THE RIGHTS OF THE NATIVE PEOPLE FROM COLCA VALLEY AND COLCA CANYON.

He is the only tour guide in all Arequipa Region that has received such condecoration and such honour.

Guillermo Rendón Cuadros is until the moment the most awarded tour guide from Arequipa and nothing can be done to stop the Condor Man who has announced publicly the FALL OF THE CORRUPTED ONES AND THE BEGINNING OF THE REAL SUSTAINABLE TOURISM IS COLCA CANYON.

The Colca Specialist would like to thank association of local tour guides ASGUIP TUCAY for having us provided the pictures of this significant ceremonial where Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros WAS DECLARED ADOPTIVE SON OF CAYLLOMA PROVICE.

The ceremonial was performed in Chivay´s main square. It was a small but significative ceremonial.

The patriotic ceremonial is about to start and an association of nurses and the representative of mothers´s association were present in the ceremonial.

Guillermo Carlos Rendón Cuadros, the adoptive son of Caylloma province was invited to raise the flag of Caylloma province,a honour never given to anybody but to authorities.

The protocol is important too. A policeman is telling the Governor of Caylloma province that the ceremonial is over.

We cannot be indiferent with the suffering of our people! There is still a lot to be done and each one of us has to become a promoter of our cultural values.! -said the adoptive son during the ceremonial that was filmed and watch by millions of peruvians in national TV.

The secretary of local tour guides association ASGUIP TUCAY from Caylloma province giving an award to the USAM which is a Mountain Rescue Unit in Chivay. They are the ones who are risking their lives for tourists that sometimes don´t recognize the labour of these brave policemen.

Stay away from the crowds with Naturaleza Activa

Naturaleza is highly rated by lonely planet and footprint. I've taken several trips with Eduardo (Lalo) and Guillermo Rendon and will continue traveling with them any time I am in Arequipa. Our trip to Colca Canyon was three days and two nights. What sets Naturaleza apart from the other guide companies is that they keep you away from the large crowds of other tourists, taking special routes that other guides do not use or do not know about.

Time and time again we would be ahead of the crowds. I never felt like we were just following all the other tourists around the typical loop in the canyon. On the first day we descended into the canyon and saw no other tourists at all, only locals with their mules. We stayed in an amazing "familiar home," (Roy's in San Juan de Chucho) which doesn't mean we slept on the floor of someone's house, but that we stayed with a family who has built several cozy little cottages on their property and who cooked a traditional dinner and breakfast for us.

Roy's had no electricity, but had plenty of hot water to shower up and great food. The next day we beat the crowds again. We stopped at the museum on our way to the Oasis, just like most tours do, but we got there before them, didn't have to wait in line, and were on our way out when the crowds showed up.

One of our guides (Lalo) went ahead to the Oasis and reserved us a spot at the best pool while preparing fresh fruit for a snack. We had lunch there and swam at the pool for a few hours. The views were awesome and the pool was nice and cool after a long morning of hiking. Then we climbed out of the canyon in the afternoon, once the sun had receded a bit so it wasn't too hot.

Everything was planned perfectly and I wouldn't expect any less from the Colca Specialists at Naturaleza. We stayed at a hotel on the second night in Cabonaconde, where again, our guides reserved us a table for dinner while other tourists were waiting in line to get a table.

Naturaleza has a huge advantage when it comes to providing the best service for their customers, not just because they specialize in Colca trips and have lots of experience, but because everywhere they go they are warmly greeted by the locals who go out of their way to help their friends at Naturaleza provide the best experience for their customers.

I couldn't count the number of old ladies that lit up when they saw Guillermo and rushed to give him a kiss. He's more than a tour guide, he's an adopted son of the region and everyone treats him as such. He's an adopted son of the region (officially) because he stands up for the local communities against other big tour companies that trample on the local culture while trying to profit from tourism.

Check the blog "The Colca Specialist" for details on Guillermo's activism in the community. Once you read it, you'll never think twice about going with another tour company. Lalo (Eduardo) the owner of Naturaleza was also amazing, and always at our service. From serving us food to taking away our dirty plates, Lalo was always there to help us and the locals.

While other tour guides just sit there while the restaurant servers take care of their customers, Lalo does it himself. No wonder the locals love him, he doesn't treat them like servants. On the third day we went to the Cruz del Condor, the only time we were immersed in a big crowd of tourists. And it wasn't a problem, there were so many Condors that they attract a big crowd.

After the condors we went to Chivay for the hot springs. Again, it was not crowded at all when we got there, but as we were leaving, the parking lot was a total traffic jam of tour companies and hikers wanting to relax after some tough hiking. We went to a nice buffet for lunch and again, by the time we were leaving there was a huge line for the buffet and we were already stuffed and on our way.

Like I said, Naturaleza keeps you ahead of the crowd at every turn. They keep your stomach full of awesome food, your head full of information about the local cultures, and your legs tired from great hiking. By the end of the trip I felt like I was actually ripping them off when I thought about all of the food, hotels, hot springs, pools, and overall amazing service that I got for my money.

I truly couldn't believe how amazing everything went and that there were no miscellaneous charges for all of the cool stuff we did. I highly recommend Naturaleza Activa for any trip in the Arequipa area, but especially Colca Canyon, as they are truly the Colca Specialists.

You'll be traveling with the owner of the company himself who takes every effort to provide the best service possible. And if you get the privilege of going with Guillermo, you'll be with the adopted son of the region, the secretary general of the tourist association of the province, and a man who stands side by side with the local people as they struggle to cope with the reality of tourism in their communities. Don't think twice, go with Naturaleza!

Downhill mountainbiking in Colca canyon

Definitively true! Colca valley and Colca canyon are wonderful places for mountainbiking. Today I would like to share with you pictures of my last mountainbiking event presented by Planet X Adventures called KAMIKAZE NITRO XT-2010 DOWNHILL COLCA CANYON.
This was the fourth time I descended Colca Canyon on a mountainbike.
received any kind of financial aid from the local authorities. Nothing is done to diffuse sports to the young people neither to create new touristic circuits in Cabanaconde.
All the events done were sponsored by private companies. None of these events In this event the downhill team was compound by Guillermo Rendón, John Medina Rendón, Edison “Chiqui” Gomosio and the dutch cyclist Esther Visscher.
Pablo Masías Nuñez del Prado, director of the TV program Pureq Runa was one of the guests of this important event.
The circuit goes from Cabanaconde and then it goes down to Soro area, which is a small communa inside Colca Canyon.
The views are really amazing and the views of the canyon are not the same as the ones seen on the area of the condor cross.
The trail we used to go down is a dirt road wide enough for a van or a small truck.
It´s not technical at all and you can go as fast as you can.
Words cannot describe the experience we had in this places.
It is a wonderful circuit. You can go downhill with your mountainbike until the bed of the river and then you can go walking to Soro or to Llahuar which is close. Mountainbiking and trekking. Fantastic.
Don´t hesitate and take this tour! If you really love nature and adventure this is the right option for you! Kodak time!

The views of the Colca Canyon are spectacular. The place has no comparison with the condor cross that in the last years turn into "the condor marketplace". No noisy groups,no vendors. Fantastic!

Here we can see the dirt trail wide enough to run safely! This circuit is marvelous.We don´t understand why the majors of Cabanaconde do nothing to publish more information about this circuit.
