Arequipa in emergency !

AREQUIPA WAS DECLARED IN EMERGENCY FOR 30 DAYS

by The Colca Specialist

Yesterday Arequipa was declared in emergency for 30 days because of the heavy rains. Yesterdays rain broke a record in Arequipa´s history: 100 liters per square meter. The rains started at 3:30 pm aproximatedly and at 5:00 pm the city´s water system and drainage collapsed completely. The most affected area was a fish market in Arequipa called Terminal Pesquero where 4 corpses were found.
Today in the morning the authorities are in a meeting taking the necessary measures to solve the problems caused by the disaster. There are many tourists with problems because of flight cancellations. We recommend all the tourists to take measures specially if you are travelling to Arequipa in this rainy season.
Kodak time!
